BIMS (BESS Implementation & Monitoring System)

India has already achieved more than 50 percent cumulative installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources. Further, India plans to install about 60% of the capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2035. The non-fossil fuel-based energy has a very large share of Solar and Wind, which are intermittent & variable sources of energy that leads to voltage and frequency fluctuations threatening Grid Stability. To integrate the variable and intermittent RE sources, there is a need to create technically and economically viable Energy Storage System (ESS) which can support the energy transition to sustainable energy thereby guarantying affordable, clean, stable and flexible power to everyone.

In order to accelerate the deployment of BESS in the country, Ministry of Power has launched the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme for development of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in 2023 providing financial support in the form of VGF. The scheme supports a total BESS capacity of around 43,850 MWh, of which 13,850 MWh is planned under Market, State, CPSU components through a budgetary support of 3760 crore and 30,000 MWh is planned under PSDF component through PSDF (Power System Development Fund) support of 5400 crore

This portal has been developed by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) which monitors the State, CPSU and PSDF components of this scheme.
